The Cause of The Revolt
Before the July Revolt began, stress had begun to accumulate in France between the lower classes and the Nobles. France had entered a state of recession, and King Charles X had a lack of awareness to what was happening to his country. The event that really caused the bourgeosie to revolt was when King Charles X set into motion restrictive ordinances on the lower classes that dissolved the Chamber of Deputies, the freedom of the press was curtailed, electoral laws were formed, and an electoral college was called for, all of which were contrary to the Charter of 1814. The middle class wanted more voice in their country, and these events set them off and led to the July Revolts.
What Happened During the Revolt? After?
The revolt was a three day event of fighting and barricades between the middle class of France and the Army. It took place between July 27 and July 29, 1830.The fighting between the two forces drove the army out and gave the middle class a form of control. The revolt forced King Charles X to resign, and he unsuccessfully attempted to leave one of his descendants (Henry) as king, but Louis-Phillippe was elected a King instead. The middle class was given more of a voice in France, and the revolts ended.
